Actor George Clooney’s high profile arrest and release today was done by design to raise consciousness about an impending “emergency” situation taking place in Africa’s Sudan region.
“We need immediate humanitarian aid into Sudan before it becomes the worst humanitarian crisis in the world,” Clooney told a crowd gathered that gathered to protest in front of the Sudanese embassy. Clooney and prominent human rights activists have also called for an end to attacks by the Sudanese government on the people of the Nuba Mountains.
Clooney, along with his father journalist Nick Clooney, NAACP president Ben Jealous, US Representative Jim Moran (VA), and other human rights activists, was arrested just outside the Sudan embassy on Friday. The Hollywood actor was arrested after trying to block the entrance to the embassy.
Clooney’s arrest drew a rapid response from the Twitter community and tweeters joined in a massive effort supporting the Hollywood actor’s humanitarian effort.-

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama hosted the Sixth Annual State Dinner on Wednesday, honoring British Prime Minister David Cameron. The black-tie event was attended by U.S. and foreign government dignitaries, Hollywood celebrities, and major donors.

As family and friends laid to rest seventeen-year-old Trayvon Martin this week, questions continued to mount surrounding the teen’s suspicious murder by the hands of a Neighborhood Watch officer who carried a concealed handgun.
The teen’s father has launched a petition calling on Florida’s 18th Disgtrict State’s Attorney to investigate the youth’s murder and to prosecute 26-year-old George Zimmerman who has not been charged and remains free.
An excerpt from the petition reads: “Trayvon’s killer, George Zimmerman, admitted to police that he shot Trayvon in the chest. Zimmerman, the community’s self appointed “neighborhood watch leader,” called the police to report a suspicious person when he saw Travyon, a young black man, walking from the store. But Zimmerman, who is white, still hasn’t been charged for murdering my son.”
